Petite, Regular or Long? Choosing a wide-leg length
A wide leg only works when the hem falls in the right place. How to choose the length that suits your height and your shoes.
Wide-leg trousers forgive almost everything except length. Too short and they look like a mistake; too long and they sweep the pavement. That’s why our Sylvie trouser and Frankie jean come in Petite, Regular and Long.
| Length | Inside leg | Usually suits |
|---|---|---|
| Petite | 71cm | Under 5′4″ (163cm) |
| Regular | 76cm | 5′4″–5′8″ (163–173cm) |
| Long | 81cm | Over 5′8″ (173cm) |
Start with your inside leg
Measure a pair of trousers that already fits you well, from the crotch seam to the hem. That number matters more than your height, because leg length varies more than most people expect.
Then think about your shoes
For flats and trainers, choose the length that lets the hem just skim the top of your foot. If you mostly wear a heel, go one length longer so the hem covers most of the shoe.
Between two lengths?
Take the longer one. Any alterations service can take up a wide leg and it will still hang properly. A short hem can’t be let down.
