About Dene & Dune
A womenswear shop from the North East of England, for clothes you’ll still be reaching for in five years.
The name
A dene is a steep wooded valley running down to the sea, and the Durham and Northumberland coast is threaded with them. At the bottom of most of them you’ll find dunes. We like the walk between the two: sheltered and green, then suddenly wide open and windy. It’s the kind of day our clothes are chosen for.
How we buy
We buy in small runs from makers we know, in fabrics that wear in rather than out: washed linen, organic cotton, merino, recycled sterling silver. Everything is worn by the team before it goes on the site, so the fit notes on each product page come from real wear, not a spec sheet.
Fit, written down properly
Every piece is shown on one of seven models, from their twenties to their fifties, from 5′2″ to 5′11″ and from UK 8 to UK 20. Each product page gives her height, the size she usually wears and the size she’s wearing, alongside the garment’s real measurements. Clothing runs from UK 6–24.
